For me, having a photographer that you can count on to capture the details of an event is key. On the day of the party, there's just no time to take pictures when you're greeting and entertaining guests, setting up the food and beverage area, and putting the finishing touches on the dessert table. Ever since Rebecca Watkins photographed my nephew's DinoFOUR birthday party, I've been able to focus on what I love best -- hosting joyful parties for children. Having Rebecca there means I can relax and grab a piece of birthday cake without missing a picture-perfect moment.

Transformers Birthday Party: Feature on Birthday Girl
I was having such a lousy day! I couldn't sleep last night, and then first thing this morning I find out there's a mini "crisis" at work. Eleven o'clock rolls around and I get an email from Becca, the Birthday Girl herself. My Trans4mers party has been featured on her oh-so-popular party blog. With so many great inspirations and ideas, it's no surprise that Birthday Girl is on every party planner's blogroll. Thanks, Becca, you really made my day!
Transformers Birthday Party
I was thrilled with how everything came together for Camden's Trans4mers birthday party. Thanks to family and friends who helped out, the party went off without a hitch. Once again, the talented, Rebecca Watkins, did an incredible job capturing the details of the party.
The paper Transformers from Paper Robots 1999 were the inspiration for the custom designed invitations and handcrafted decorations.
For the table centerpiece, Optimus Prime and Megatron were suspended in mid-air above a 3-D paper backdrop of New York City Harbor. The banner with Camden's name was designed to look like chrome wheels. Get instructions on how to make the it here. The same wheel motif was repeated throughout the party space.
Frank, Camden's Uncle and Transformers Subject Matter Expert (T-SME) was the mastermind behind the witty names for the food and drinks (like Allsparkling fruit juice and lemonade with Energon cubes). The food tent templates can now be downloaded for free here, here and here.
Our friend, Loan, blew us away, yet again, with a 2-tier red velvet Bumblebee Transformer cake. If that wasn't impressive enough, she also made a banana and caramel Decepticon cake with a Soundwave Transformer fondant figure for Uncle Frank(atron), whose birthday falls just a few days before Camden's.
These Kabaya Transformers kits from TF Source came with pieces to assemble Optimus Prime, Star Saber or Henkei Convoy, a piece of gum, and instructions printed on the box in Japanese.
There was also an activity table to build your own robot using cardboard materials, and Make Do parts and connectors. These beautifully handcrafted stools by Lighthouse Woodworking in Winchester, VA were the perfect size for the kids.
The boys had the most fun playing with the Transformers toys. Did you know that Hasbro makes Star Wars and Marvel Transformers Crossovers?
Using boxes and pieces of cardboard, my husband, the "Cardboard Master", constructed an Optimus Prime that actually transforms into a truck! How cool is that? Everyone still remembers the functioning yellow bulldozer that he built for Camden's Under Construction theme party last year. The Autobot lollipops were made by simply pouring blue vanilla flavored candy melts into a robot mold, then popping them into the freezer for about 10 minutes.

Tutorial: Transformers Party Banner
Since Autobots transform into vehicles, I decided to make a banner that resembles chrome wheels and customize it with Camden's name. These decorations are also great for car theme parties.
For this tutorial, you'll need 12"x12" silver metallic card stock (each sheet makes 2 hubcaps), 8.5"x11" black card stock for each letter in the name, 8.5"x11" red card stock, glue, and scrapbook wire.
1. Cut the 12"x12" silver card stock in half and score 1" lines along the shorter side.
2. Make a fan, then make a score down the middle.
3. Bend the strip in half and glue the ends together. Use paper binding clips to help keep it in place. Repeat on the other side.
4. Trace and cut an 8 1/4" circle out of the black paper. I used a round cookie tin lid for tracing. Then make a small hole in the center of the tire.
5. Thread scrapbook wire through the center of the hubcap and tire.
6. Print the name of the birthday boy on plain copier paper. Cut the letters and trace them onto the red card stock. Cut out the red letters and glue them onto a wheel.
See the completed banner and details of the Transformer party when I post pictures this weekend.

Transformers Food Tents
With Camden's TransFOURmer birthday party coming up next Saturday, I've been busy trying to everything ready. Thank goodness for the holidays, otherwise, I never would've had the time to work on all of the DIY projects on my list. Today, I made these food tents using Photoshop. My brother-in-law, Frank, who has been a huge Transformers fan since childhood, came up with these clever names for the food, like Optimus Prime beef burgers and Jetfire wings (i.e., buffalo wings). You can download the food tent templates here, here and here.
I also managed to create the banner (find tutorial here) and decorations, and construct the Megatron paper robot in the past few days. On Sunday, I'll be making lollipops out of blue vanilla flavored candy melts using these robot molds that I bought on ebay.
It just so happens that Frank's birthday is on the 5th, so we got him this awesome t-shirt and a Transformers collector's edition Monopoly game from 80's Tees. It made me laugh when I saw it, so I had to get it for him.

WIP: TransFOURmers Birthday Party
I wasn't exactly thrilled when Camden asked to have a Transformer theme party for his fourth birthday in January. Then I stumbled upon this awesome web site called Paper Robots 1999 when I was looking for ideas for his Bumblebee Transformer Halloween costume. Robot templates, like Optimus Prime and Megatron Transformers, can be downloaded from the site for free. All you do is "Print, Punch, Cut, Glue, String, and Enjoy!" For this project, I broke out my handy dandy scrapbooking tools and wire. The paper piercer was perfect for the making the holes, and the thin, flexible wire made it easy to thread the pieces together.
And the best part is, it really transforms into a truck. Pure genius!
