Features on Stylish Children's Parties
I was completely flattered when Kate Landers asked to feature both my "Mad Science" and "Under Construction" birthday parties on her blog, Stylish Children's Parties. Her parties are absolutely spectacular and are featured in all of the popular party blogs. I just love her sense of style and attention to details. Mad Science Birthday Party
Caitlyn became fascinated with science when she started kindergarten, and it was her idea to have a "Mad Science" party for her sixth birthday. These custom designed invitations from Melanie Crownover at ewe hooo, provided a lot of ideas and inspiration, from the color of the decorations to the design of the cake.
To help set the scene, there were mason jars filled with radioactive rods (i.e., glow sticks), real laboratory beakers containing Potion No. 6 test tube favors, and essential books in every mad scientist's library.
Inspired by the invitation, Loan, a full-time pharamacist and part-time "Ace of Cakes", created this phenomenal 2 tier red velvet cake. We loved all of the clever details that went into the cake, from the bubbling flask, mortar and pestle, book of potions, and spilling test tube, down to the lab rats pleading for help.
Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes from Happy Eatery were topped with my handmade toppers and displayed on the custom cupcake stand.
Our gummy worm and brain cultures grew in Jello petri dishes overnight in the refrigerator.
Guests rotated to various experimenting stations when they arrived. Our mad scientists demonstrated how to blow up balloons with baking soda and vinegar, make instant snow in the middle of July, and how to create a vortex using 2 plastic soda bottles connected with a tornado tube.
Diane from Mad Science entertained the audience with her high-energy experiments. At the end, the kids concocted glittery, slippery slime for their take home projects.
No mad science party is complete without some dry ice.
And for the grand finale, you got to have Diet Coke and Mentos geysers -- a real crowd pleaser for all ages. Thanks to the record breaking heat, our geysers reached record heights!

Mach 5 Birthday Party
Loan and Khoi always throw the most over the top birthday parties for their son, Kiernan, and this year was no exception. For his fifth birthday, they went all out with a race car themed party, complete with carioke, a caricaturist, and plasma toy car races.
Holey Cow, Phoebe Turned One!
Phoebe was born in the Year of the Cow, so it was only fitting that she had a farm themed first birthday party. This moo-velous cake with fondant farm animals, cow spots and flowers, was decorated by her Mommy.
