Angry Birds Birthday Party

As soon as I saw this video, I couldn't wait to throw the ultimate LIVE Angry Birds party for Camden's 6th birthday. We rented out an indoor soccer field at the nZone, taped up cardboard boxes to resemble wooden planks, decorated green paper lanterns with pig faces, painted Angry Bird eyes and glued Nerf footballs onto fitness balls, made a sling shot from a cargo net and bungee cords, and it was GAME ON! Plain cardboard boxes were transformed into cases of TNT, just like the ones in the game, with brown and yellow washi tape and TNT labels. The make-shift sling slot was clipped onto two volleyball poles, which were held down by sand bags.

After 45 minutes on the field, guests moved to the party room to Build-A-Bird with balloons and pre-cut Angry Birds stickers. The nests were made by shaping kraft crinkle paper coated with a 50/50 solution of water and white glue into a large bowl lined with plastic wrap.

I went old school and just ordered an amazing Angry Birds cake by Stephanie the Baker. It goes to show that you don't need an over the top and overly styled dessert table to have a fabulous birthday party. For the backdrop, a scene from the Angry Birds game was enlarged at Costco and a graphic 3-D wall was created using favor bags from Target (get the simple tutorial here).

This was the first birthday party that we've had outside of our home in 6 years, and it turned out way better than I had imagined. Everyone, from the kids to the crew working at the venue, had fun crashing Camden's birdday party.
