Donut Birthday Party

Caitlyn hearts donuts, so for her 11th birthday, it was all about the big D. Inspired by Paper Glitter's Donut Party Kit, I created a donut shop sign using chalk markers, and adorned the wall with donut balloons topped with crepe paper sprinkles (get the tutorial at DIY Studio).

Minecraft Birthday Party

It's been almost seven months since Camden's Minecraft Birthday Party, and I'm finally getting around to sharing the details. Meanwhile he has already moved on to Terraria.

Popsicles & Pajamas Birthday Party

Caitlyn's 6th birthday party was THE first party that I posted on the blog. I blinked and somehow she turned 10! She has grown up to be a creative young lady who loves to craft party decorations just like her momma. This year we celebrated her milestone birthday with a popsicle themed party and sleepover with 9 of her closest friends. A big thanks to Eat Drink Chic for the free downloadable popsicle designs.

It's been one week since the party. I woke up this morning and saw this sweetest thank you note from Caitlyn posted on my office wall.

Robotics Birthday Party

These days I'm all about keeping parties simple and fuss-free. For me, that means having parties outside of the home so I can actually enjoy myself and not have to worry about set up, clean up and entertaining 20 kids for an hour and a half. Plus, having someone else run the party gives me the opportunity to snap some pictures instead of hiring a professional photographer. This year, we celebrated Camden's 7th birthday with a robotics party at Ideaventions, a local "discovery lab for kids".

I spent a little extra to have Chickabug's robot theme invitations professionally printed, and was so happy with the high quality and quick turnaround time, I may never go back to printable invitations! To top it off, the colors from the invitation matched the colors at the venue.

The party space was simply decorated with colorful balloons provided by the venue and a handmade tassel garland. The large green, blue and orange Ideaventions logo was the perfect backdrop for the dessert table. A store bought cake was topped with a 3D fondant robot by Fresh Bakes. Robot cake pops studded with candy, also from Fresh Bakes, were a big hit with the kiddos. Easy peasy lime and orange jello were served in adorable Yumbots cupcake molds.

For the activities, the kids constructed an elaborate max for hex bugs to navigate; used wiimotes as remote controls to guide a LEGO robots through tough driving challenges; and went head to head, modifying LEGO Sumobots with weapons and armor to shove an opposing robot out of the ring.

Ideavention water bottles filled with LEGOS and tied with personalized tags from Chickabug were used for the party favors.

Crafting Birthday Party

After being away from the whole blogging scene for half of the year, I'm back to share some of my favorite photos from Caitlyn's Crafting Party. Get the complete details on Amy Atlas Events, Hostess With The Mostess, and Pop Sugar Moms. Special thanks to Heather of Hartleigh Jane Photography for the feature worthy photos.

Circus Birthday Party Ideas

Interestingly, I'm working on 2 circus themed first birthday parties that are a week apart from each other! Both clients wanted to go with a gender neutral theme that would be fun for guests of all ages. Think cotton candy, funnel cakes, corn dogs, balloon twisters, and carnival games. Check out my Circus Birthday Party Pinterest board for more ideas and inspiration.

Tutorial: Favor Bag Backdrop

I had the hardest time coming up with a backdrop for the cake table at Camden's Angry Birds birthday party. My idea of using Post-It Notes to create a pixelated backdrop sounded brilliant, but it turned out to be a flop (which was why I had so many Post-It Notes for the neon heart backdrop). Finally, I came up with this 3-D backdrop using the polka dotted bags that were used to hold the party favors. As promised, here's the super simple tutorial to recreate this favor bag backdrop : )

Tutorial: Neon Heart Post-It Notes Backdrop

With Valentine's Day less than a week away, I'm sharing my Neon Heart Post-It Notes backdrop tutorial on Bird's Party today. Of course this technique of folding over Post-It Notes could be used to make all sorts of gorgeous graphic backdrops. Check out my Post-It Notes Art board on Pinterest for more inspiration.

Angry Birds Birthday Party

As soon as I saw this video, I couldn't wait to throw the ultimate LIVE Angry Birds party for Camden's 6th birthday. We rented out an indoor soccer field at the nZone, taped up cardboard boxes to resemble wooden planks, decorated green paper lanterns with pig faces, painted Angry Bird eyes and glued Nerf footballs onto fitness balls, made a sling shot from a cargo net and bungee cords, and it was GAME ON! Get the giant Angry Birds how-to guide from Shine Middle School here.

Plain cardboard boxes were transformed into cases of TNT, just like the ones in the game, with brown and yellow washi tape and TNT labels. The make-shift sling slot was clipped onto two volleyball poles, which were held down by sand bags.
